TAZA – the name stands for Tanzania and Zambia, the two countries where our initiative began. Since 1997, the Wörwag family and the company, together with the Herrnhuter Missionshilfe, have been committed to giving young people in economically disadvantaged regions of Africa new perspectives through practical vocational training. Today, TAZA encompasses six vocational schools in Tanzania, Zambia, and Zanzibar, offering hundreds of young people – including those with disabilities – a path to an independent life every year. The annual TAZA-Report documents the progress of this work.

New Opportunities for Young People in Africa

The latest TAZA-Report 2025 impressively demonstrates how education opens doors—especially for people with disabilities. Inclusive vocational training is the central theme this year. It enables young people to develop their talents and find their place in society.

Better Learning Conditions in Tanzania and Zambia

In 2025, new kitchen facilities were built at vocational schools, replacing simple tin huts and creating safe, hygienic spaces for training. For the students, this means not only improved equipment, but also a clear sign that their education and future are taken seriously.

Tools for the Journey Ahead

To help graduates get started in their professional lives, they receive starter kits tailored to their field of training - such as sewing machines, tools, or materials. For many, this equipment is the crucial step toward self-employment: it enables these young people to put what they have learned directly into practice and to open their own small businesses. Take Mary, for example, who, after completing her training as a tailor, was able to set up her own workshop with her starter kit and now supports her family independently. For many graduates, these starter kits are not just material support, but also a symbol of hope and an opportunity for a self-determined life.

Stories That Inspire

Mwaka Iddi Haji from Zanzibar is one of many whose life has been transformed by education. After an accident and the loss of her leg, she received a scholarship to the Herrnhuter Academy. Today, she is about to complete her training and looks to the future with hope.

Thanks and Outlook

The progress made over the past year would not have been possible without the support of many partners and donors. Together, we have been able to expand vocational schools, create inclusive opportunities, build kitchens, and pave the way to self-employment with tool kits.

There is still much to do: plans for the future include scholarships for young people with disabilities, equipping more kitchens, and providing starter kits to help graduates begin independent lives.
