Research, development and innovations

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less. – Marie Curie

The disciplines of medicine, nutritional science, pharmacy, chemistry and pharmaceutical technology are working closely together here at Wörwag Pharma. Like our company founder Dr. Fritz Wörwag, who developed the active ingredient benfotiamine into a milestone in the treatment of diabetic comorbidities, we are convinced that innovations are the key to enabling everyone to live a healthier life.

Today our R&D activities have expanded into diabetes and associated diseases, nervous system, ageing of the locomotor system and strengthening of the immune system focusing on:

  • Improvement of biopharmaceutical characteristics of existing active substances, mainly biofactors like vitamins, minerals, trace elements but also new substances with confirmed biological activities
  • Introduction of new active substances or combinations of those
  • Development of new technological solutions or new dosage forms which can improve efficacy, safety or patients/customers adherence
  • Clinical development/studies related on new indications for new or existing APIs or combinations of APIs

Currently we have six products in the pipeline in different development phases. The evaluation of potential new candidates from internal and external sources is a continuous process of our  team.

The Fritz Wörwag Research Prize

In 1988, our company founder Dr. Fritz Wörwag established the research prize named after him. Since then, an independent jury has decided on the awarding of the prize.
